PVC Ceiling vs Plaster Ceiling: Which Is Better?
Both PVC ceilings and plaster ceilings are common in Malaysian homes. Which one is better depends on the look you want and how you want the ceiling to age. Here is a plain comparison.
The short answer
Choose a PVC ceiling for a ready-finished, easy-care ceiling with a clean install. Choose a plaster ceiling if you want curves, steps or built-in cove lighting. Many homes use both.
Finish and colour
A PVC ceiling panel comes already coloured, so there is no painting after it goes up. We supply eight colours (YK01 to YK08), from white and light wood to dark brown and charcoal. A plaster ceiling is painted after it is built, so you can pick any paint colour and repaint it later.

Design and shape
Plaster is the better fit for custom shapes, such as curves, stepped drops and cove lighting. PVC ceiling panels run in straight strips, so they suit flat ceilings, kitchens, porches, shops and rooms with a simple shape.
Upkeep
PVC ceiling panels are water-resistant. Plaster ceilings need repainting from time to time, and joints can crack as a building settles.
Mess and install
A plaster ceiling is built and finished on site, with plastering, drying and painting. A PVC ceiling is a cleaner job, because the panels arrive finished and our team fits them.
Price
Our PVC ceiling is RM10.99 per sqft, supply and install. Plaster ceiling prices vary a lot with the design, so ask for a quotation for each and compare the same area side by side. Use our price calculator for the PVC figure.
